FAQs

Questions on Training Services

Q. How often do I need to be retrained?
A. DOT requires training every 3 years while the international regulations ICAO and IATA require every 2 years. Both organizations also require training updates when the regulations change. Since most people ship medical specimens by air at some point and because the regulations have changed yearly, at least most in the medical industry get retrained every 2 years.

Q. What is covered in the training seminar?
A. DOT and IATA regulations require General Awareness of domestic and international regulations and Emergency Response/Safety Training, but the bulk of the class involves Function Specific Training which involves the specifics you need to do your job. This includes package marking, documentation and industry practices that affect the shipping of specimens. Also covered are Courier requirements, CAP checklist issues and package solutions.

Q. Will we receive a certificate?
A. After completing the seminar and test you will receive a certificate of training that is recognized by the US Department of Transportation (DOT) and other regulatory bodies such as FAA and IATA.

Q. What are the related hazards covered?
A. Related hazards include Dry Ice, Formilin and other fixatives and additives.  There are many hazards shipped with specimens that most people are not aware of.  Because HighQ consults with and tests packages for many of the clinical trial package companies we cover these items and instruct students in how to properly package, label and ship them.
